Disney's Dinosaur - March 1, 2013

Tonight's feature was Disney's Dinosaur!  It has been years since any of us had seen this movie and to be honest I wasn't sure if I remembered liking it when I last saw it.  I have to say that after watching the movie I was so glad that Reece picked it out!  What a wonderful story of friendship, helping each other, and sticking together.  It was definitely a keeper!

Tonight we were missing Bruce (fishing weekend with the guys -- booo!) and Liam (we temporarily exiled him from movie nights), but we did add Grandma Marlene to the mix (her cell phone was turned on this time - hahaha).  We had some Carnotaurus Claws (bugles) for our movie snack, but I forgot to take a picture of them.  Oh well!

Our craft for the night was making dinosaur feet out of craft foam.  We laughed so hard at our mom's attempt to "freestyle" her dinosaur feet -- after all who needs to measure or needs a pattern for things?  Well, apparently she did -- check out the blue feet!  It was hilarious -- rumor has it there is a video somewhere hahahaha!
Mom retreated to the bathroom for a while and we were concerned that she didn't take our jokes about her feet too well when all of a sudden my mom's dog, Roxy, came strutting into the dining room sporting some very theme appropriate footwear -- guess we know what mom was doing now!
Here are a few more pictures of our dinosaur feet -- some of them are so blurry.  Me thinks it is time to invest in a new camera (woohoo, I mean darn!)

Group shot of the Dino Feet (l-r: Chris, Ashley, Reece, Jess, Melissa, Dianne).  We decided our dino feet needed claws which just makes them that much better!  Ryan, Steve, and Marlene were being party poopers and didn't want to join in the dino feet craze.  Next time I think they will have a choice!

Our attempt at scary dino faces (notice Sophi poking her head through Chris's legs?)

After the fun of our dino feet crafts we set the table for a super yummy Dinosaur themed supper.  We feasted on:

Pteranodon Wings

Velociraptor Bites
Meteor Pieces

Herbivore Delight

Lemur Lemonade

And Iguanodon Nests
We had so much fun with Disney Dinosaur -- so much more fun than any of us expected to have!  The highlight of the night was definitely mom's "freestyle" dino feet.  I don't think that we have laughed that much as a family in a long time.  And that is what these nights are all about -- creating memories and enjoying each other!

Ryan had the pleasure of picking out our next movie which will happen to be at the end of March -- we just couldn't go too long without a Disney Family Fun Night.  So, the next movie will be A Bug's Life.  Hopefully by the end of March we will be transitioning out of winter and looking forward to spring.  Who am I kidding?  Like all true Minnesotans I think we all start looking foward to spring after the second snow storm of the season -- so somewhere around October, right??

Until next time remember "It all started with a mouse!"

Lady and the Tramp - Feburary 17, 2013

Our very first Disney Family Fun Day was Lady and the Tramp -- how fitting for the weekend after Valentine's Day!  Steve and Dianne, Bruce, Melissa, and Ryan, Jess and Reece, Ashley and Chris, and even little Liam gathered around the living room with our blankets and watched the movie.  Well technically Liam didn't watch the movie (he was too interested in cheese balls and toys and we almost voted him off the island at one point -- he's a busy, busy, busy one year old!) and Dianne may have been a little buzzed from her quest to drink the wine so we could use the bottle as a candle holder (is it hot in here??), but we all still enjoyed the movie very much.  I still love Jock and Trusty!  We tried to call Grandma Marlene, but she turned her phone off for church and forgot to turn it back on -- silly lady -- so she missed out on the fun (boooo!).

After the movie we moved on to some crafts.  We tried to make these cute little Lady and Tramp paper cutout puppets, but didn't get to fully assemble them.  There were a lot of cuts and tabs and they just didn't seem to stay together very well.  We also had some coloring pages which helped save the day!

Jess & Reece still cutting
Bruce even got into the crafts
After the crafts we set the table for our Lady and the Tramp inspired meal.  I was lucky enough to find a red and white checkered table cloth in the Valentine's clearance section and picked up two for $0.97!  Can't beat that deal!  For dinner we had:

Tony's Spaghetti and Meatballs
Bony Breadsticks
Tramp's Tossed Greens
Lady's Fancy Fruit Salad

Si and Am's String Beans
Pinot Leshio (sparkling apple juice)

and Spaghetti and Meatball Cupcakes
Here's our table (and mom's wine bottle candle holder <hiccup>)...
All in all our first Disney Family Fun Day was a blast!  We decided that at the end of each movie night we would let someone pick the movie for next month.  We also decided that from now on we would try to focus on movies that have rides or characters in Walt Disney World.  Reece was the lucky one who got to choose March's movie and he decided on Disney's Dinosaur!

Until next time remember "It all started with a mouse!"

It Starts....

We are in the process of planning a family vacation to Walt Disney World for the winter of 2014.  For some of us it will be our second or third time there, but for the majority of us it will be our first time visiting the happiest place on Earth.  As a way to build excitement and make some magical memories our family is getting together at least once a month for Disney Family Fun Days!  We watch a Disney movie, have a fun craft and/or activity based on the movie, and eat a themed meal.  We have had such a blast doing this that we thought we'd put all of our memories in one place!
